Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City Tours

This morning, we got up bright and early and headed to the dining room for breakfast.  It was nice to finally get to meet Lisa, Eric, and their daughter Ava, who we originally met on an adoption group on FB.

The temperature here is 32° F with a mixture of snow and rain. We layered our clothes to keep warm, but it wasn't enough. We took a twenty minute bus trip to our first stop which was Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City.   The tour guide, Jason, shared with us that 60% of people currently living in Beijing originated from places other than Beijing. There are 30 million people in this city alone and over 5 million cars needed for transportation.  China has more than 1.5 billion people. 80% of the people are Han which is the largest ethnic group in China.  The Forbidden City has 9999 rooms and there has been 24 Emperors. It is located in the very heart of Beijing. It is recognized as one of the most important five palaces in the world and considered the largest ancient palatial structure in the world.

Next, we went to Hutong District In order to visit a local family's house for a home cooked meal.  We had a total of nine dishes to try. The food was hot and tasty. It was nice to spend time with a local family and learn a little about the culture.

National museum which is the biggest museum in China
